Cursor has released Composer 2, an updated model for writing and editing code inside the editor. I use Composer when a change spans several files or when I need the terminal in the same session as the code. These notes summarize Cursor’s announcement for my own reference.

Composer is Cursor’s agent-oriented model. It is meant for tool calls, edits across a repository, and terminal commands in one continuous session, rather than short, self-contained chat replies. Composer 2 is the latest version of that model. Cursor describes it as reaching frontier-level results on the benchmarks they publish, with training that focuses on long tasks (work that takes many steps, not a single prompt) using reinforcement learning and continued pretraining.

On CursorBench, Terminal-Bench 2.0, and SWE-bench Multilingual, Cursor reports Composer 2 ahead of Composer 1.5 and Composer 1. Vendor benchmarks are never the whole story, but the pattern fits the product: more emphasis on terminal use and repository-scale work, not only on brief completions. Tables and methodology are in Cursor’s Composer 2 post.

Pricing figures below come from the same announcement. Always confirm current numbers in models and pricing. The standard Composer 2 rate is $0.50 per million input tokens and $2.50 per million output tokens. The faster tier is $1.50 per million input tokens and $7.50 per million output tokens at the same capability level. Cursor says the fast tier is the default in the app. On individual plans, Composer usage falls under the standalone usage pool rules in the documentation, so your bill depends on your subscription and your actual token usage.

If you already use Composer, you will mostly see updates to the model name and defaults. Limits and UI text change; for authoritative limits and options, use Cursor’s Composer 2 documentation.
